Christina Schneemann, an ASSE CBXY Exchange Student from Munich, Germany, has become totally involved in every aspect of life in Traverse City, Michigan, USA, where she lives with the Davis family. Not only is Christina enjoying life with her ASSE host family, but as a student at St. Francis High School, she ran with the cross country team in the autumn and is on the pom and dance team this winter.
On January 15, 2008, she got the unique opportunity to volunteer on Senator John McCain’s campaign for the U.S. presidency

during his visit to her host community. Christina got a real behind-the-scenes view as she helped set up the event stage, handed out stickers and posters, and unloaded and loaded luggage between the senator’s plane and hotel. The big moment arrived when Christina met Senator McCain personally, had a short visit, shook his hand, was photographed with him and his wife, and listened to his campaign speech. Christina says, “I will always remember this firsthand look at American politics in action.” Kudos to Christina for getting a closeup view of the workings of a political campaign!
